Bear facts on parking Author: By DONNA SHARPE Cessnock Reporter Date: 03/07/2008 Publication: Newcastle Herald
A $3.5 MILLION draft master plan for Weston Bears Park will go on public exhibition with little information about additional car parking.
The proposed major expansion will include four additional playing fields, construction of an amenities block, floodlighting, an automatic irrigation system and the demolition and relocation of cricket practice nets.
While provision has been made in costing for 100 car parking spaces, Cessnock Greens councillor James Ryan called last night for more information on car parking requirements and the effect the development would have on threatened species.
Cr Ryan told the council meeting he was shocked the report was presented to the council for a second time with little additional information about his concerns.
He said that one of the main issues raised when it was presented to the council earlier this year was car parking requirements.
"We can't put this forward for public exhibition as the council's recommendation when we have no idea what we will do with car parking," he said.
Cr Ron Bessoff said the car parking issue could come back before the council in a further report.
"This is a stalling tactic," he said.
Cr Dale Troy agreed with Cr Ryan.
