Govt to trial residential parking permits ABC Online
The ACT Government is considering introducing residential parking permits for areas adjoining the major town centres.
Tenants have complained about the lack of access to free parking spaces and the Urban Services Department is looking to trial a permit system.
Opposition spokesman Richard Mulcahy has welcomed the initiative, saying it will help overcome the problem of motorists using residential streets to avoid paying for parking, especially near Civic.
"We have to be satisfied the residents themselves feel its the solution to the concerns raised," he said.
"We've seen the success when introduced in Sydney and Melbourne and Brisbane, obviously much larger communities and it seems to make sense."
