ABC Online Minister calls for upfront parking fine tactics Sun Jun 15, 2008 9:00am AEST
The Department of Local Government says councils need to inform the public if they are using covert technology such as digital cameras in the process of issuing parking fines.
The Minister for Local Government, Paul Lynch, says many people are unaware that their infringements are being caught on hidden cameras.
"People don't know that they're being photographed. They don't know that their breach of the parking rules is being observed in that sense," he said.
"Now if councils are doing that and that's a legitimate thing for councils to do, but if they're doing that, they need to be fairly up front about that and need to tell the communities what they're going, the tactics they're using."
