Parking fines not ours, says council Author: GR Date: 12/06/2007 Publication: Newcastle Herald
NEWCASTLE City Council has denied its rangers were responsible for leaving parking tickets on any vehicles left abandoned in the city after the weekend storms.
Several people called The Herald and talkback radio on Monday to complain about the fines, but the council confirmed yesterday that its rangers had not issued a single parking infringement notice on Saturday, Sunday or yesterday.
A council spokeswoman said a check of the records yesterday showed that two rangers worked on Saturday but issued no parking fines. She said no rangers worked on Sunday and suggested the fines may have been issued by police.
"Council and the rangers have been upset by this because we have worked so hard since Friday trying to help people affected by the storms," she said.
