Revenue NSW has set 2026-27 parking space levy rates of $3,120 per space in Category 1 areas and $1,110 in Category 2 centres, with returns due 1 September 2026.

Revenue NSW has published the parking space levy rates for the 2026-27 tax year, reminding owners of leviable car spaces in Sydney's major commercial centres to prepare their annual returns.

The levy is $3,120 per space in Category 1 districts, the Sydney CBD and North Sydney, and $1,110 per space in Category 2 districts, which cover Bondi Junction, Chatswood, Parramatta and St Leonards.

Liability is based on the spaces an owner held on 1 July 2026, while any exemptions depend on how each space was used between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026. The return period opened on 1 July 2026 and annual returns were due by 1 September 2026.

Revenue NSW warned that owners who miss the deadline will receive an estimated assessment with no exemptions applied, plus interest and penalty tax, and will lose the option of paying by quarterly instalments. Its online service now allows returns to be lodged for up to five tax years, documents to be uploaded and exemption claims to be managed.

Anyone buying a car space in these centres should check whether it is leviable, and what exemptions may apply, before settling on a price, because the annual levy can significantly reduce the net return from leasing the space out.
